Medical compression socks rely on elastic fabric to keep a defined, close fit along the lower leg. Because of this, they should be treated more carefully than ordinary socks. Follow the care instructions on the product label if available, as those instructions are the most specific guidance for washing temperature, drying and whether machine washing is suitable.
As a general rule, wash compression hosiery gently and avoid anything that may damage elasticity, such as high heat, harsh wringing or rough drying. After washing, reshape the sock lightly with your hands and let it dry fully before wearing it again. Do not put the socks on while damp, because damp fabric can be harder to position correctly and may feel uncomfortable against the skin.
When putting them on or taking them off, keep fingernails, rings and rough skin from catching the fabric. Small snags or overstretched areas can affect how evenly the sock sits on the leg. If the material becomes noticeably loose, stretched out, damaged, or no longer stays in place, it may not provide the same controlled compression as when it was in good condition.
Store them dry and unfolded or lightly folded rather than tightly twisted. Before each use, check that the sock has no folds, holes or tight rolled edges, especially around the ankle and upper band, since even pressure distribution is important for comfort and correct wear.
