What should I consider if my child already gets fluoride from other sources?

Fluoride can come from several places: drinking water, other toothpaste, fluoride supplements, or professional treatments at the dentist. If your child already receives fluoride from multiple sources, or is especially prone to irritation, it is worth asking a dentist which fluoride toothpaste fits best. This product contains sodium monofluorophosphate, a fluoride compound, so it adds to the child's overall fluoride intake.

Using more than one fluoride product is not necessarily a problem, but a dentist can help you balance the total amount. The right total daily amount depends on the child's age, diet, and local water supply. If your child also uses a fluoride mouth rinse, mention this to the dentist as well. If your child has a chronic condition or is on medication, consult a dentist or doctor before use.
