What is the correct way to use the included fixing balm and why does timing matter?

The fixing balm is not a regular conditioner; it's formulated to work immediately after the color rinse, while the hair's cuticle is still slightly swollen from the ammonia (or alkaline agent) in the permanent dye. At this moment, conditioning ingredients — keratin, vitamins, emollients — can penetrate more effectively than they would on fully closed, dry hair. The routine: after the development time ends, add a little warm water, emulsify the color, and rinse thoroughly until water runs clear. Do not shampoo yet. Towel-blot excess water, then apply the balm generously from mid-lengths to ends (avoiding the scalp unless it feels irritated). Leave it on for 3–5 minutes — this short contact time is enough for the keratin to deposit on the cuticle surface. Rinse again with cool water to help seal the cuticle. Only then, if desired, follow with a gentle sulfate-free shampoo. Skipping the balm or using it days later as a mask misses the window when it does the most for color evenness and post-dye texture.
