What is CO2 extraction, and why does it matter for a children’s cream?

Supercritical CO2 extraction is a method of extracting active components from plant material using carbon dioxide at a specific pressure and temperature, without harsh solvents or high heat. Unlike traditional extraction methods, this approach makes it possible to retain more of the natural substances that are partly destroyed by heat treatment.

For children’s cosmetics, this has practical significance: the fewer auxiliary chemical agents are involved in producing the extract, the purer the final ingredient. In Semitsvetik Hügieeniline Lastekreem, the extracts of all seven plants — chamomile, St John’s wort, sea buckthorn, plantain, calendula, bur marigold and linden — are obtained this way.

It is important to understand that CO2 extraction affects the quality and composition of the extract itself, but it does not guarantee that the product as a whole is hypoallergenic. Plant ingredients, even high-quality ones, can cause individual reactions — especially in children with an atopic predisposition. That is why the first application should always be on a small area of skin.
