What does red clay do in this soap, and why is it in a cleanser?

Red clay in this soap acts mainly as a fine mineral powder. Because the particles are very fine, they help absorb excess oil from the skin surface while you wash. At the same time, they lift away impurities — the everyday dirt and residue that builds up on the face and body — so these are rinsed off with the foam instead of staying on the skin.

This is why a clay soap is often chosen when a more thorough cleanse is wanted, especially on oilier areas such as the T-zone, back, or shoulders. The clay does not replace the soap base; it works with it. The soap base creates foam and removes surface oils, while the clay adds a mild physical lift and oil-absorbing effect during the wash. Rinsing well is important so that clay, foam, and loosened impurities are all washed away completely.

The bar also contains glycerin and olive fruit oil. Glycerin helps reduce the dry, tight feeling that stronger cleansers can sometimes leave behind, and olive oil adds a softer touch, balancing the more intensive clay effect. Still, on very dry or easily irritated skin, a clay soap may be too strong for daily use. If your skin reacts with tightness, use it less often and follow with a suitable moisturiser.
