What does "fragrance-free" mean for the actual experience — will it smell like raw ingredients?

"Fragrance-free" on this label means no synthetic perfume, no essential-oil fragrance blend, and no masking agents have been added to create a specific scent profile. What you'll smell is the inherent, low-odour character of the raw materials: the wax-ester jojoba, the refined macadamia and argan oils, and the bamboo extract. These ingredients are typically deodorised during cosmetic-grade processing, so the resulting aroma is very faint — often described as slightly nutty or simply "clean" — and dissipates quickly after rinsing.

This matters for two groups: people with fragrance sensitivity or reactive scalps (since fragrance is a top cosmetic allergen), and anyone who layers leave-in treatments, styling products, or perfume and doesn't want competing scents. Because there's no added fragrance, the product also avoids the alcohol-based solvents or fixatives that sometimes accompany perfumes in haircare.

If you're used to heavily scented conditioners, the first few uses may feel "unscented" rather than pleasantly scented. That's normal. The performance — detangling, softness, shine — comes from the oils, collagen film, and silica, not from the scent.
