While these herbal lozenges are generally well-tolerated, there are specific groups who should not use them. They are not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Additionally, due to the pharmacological activity of the thermopsis alkaloids, they are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Individuals with a history of peptic ulcer disease should also avoid this product, as the ingredients may irritate the gastrointestinal lining.
A critical safety consideration involves how this product interacts with other medications. Do not combine these tablets with cough suppressants that block the cough reflex. Since the mechanism of these lozenges is to encourage the production and expulsion of mucus, suppressing the cough reflex can cause that mucus to accumulate in the bronchi, which is counterproductive and potentially harmful.
If your cough persists for longer than a week, or if it is accompanied by fever, chest pain, or blood in the sputum, you should consult a physician immediately. These symptoms may indicate a condition that requires medical intervention beyond the scope of a food supplement.
