The main source of vitamin D for humans is synthesis in the skin under the effect of ultraviolet light. This is exactly why the need for an additional supply of the nutrient from diet or supplements rises in certain situations.
- The autumn-winter period. In countries with a temperate or northern climate, sunlight from October to March is not enough for full vitamin D synthesis even with regular walks outdoors. This applies to most of Europe, including the Baltic states and Scandinavia.
- Little time outdoors. Children who spend most of the day indoors — because of school, illness or climate — get less sunlight regardless of the season.
- Periods of active growth. During this time the need for calcium and phosphorus, whose metabolism is regulated by vitamin D3, is objectively higher.
- An unbalanced diet. The main food sources of vitamin D are fatty fish, egg yolk and liver. If a child does not eat these, or eats them rarely, the diet may not cover the need.
MISHKI EVALAR pastilles can be a convenient way to supplement the diet in the situations listed above. At the same time, they do not replace walks outdoors and a varied diet — they are an additional, not a primary, source of the nutrient.
