The dense texture and the resinous aroma are both natural to the formula. The balm is made from unrefined, first cold-pressed cedar nut oil, which keeps more of the nuts' original lipid fraction and characteristic aroma, plus 12.5% cedar resin. The resin is what gives the product its thicker consistency and its pronounced tree-resin smell. No added fragrance is used; the scent comes from the resin itself.
Because of that, this balm does not behave like a light, neutral body oil. It is rich and dense, and the smell is clearly woody and forest-like. For anyone used to odourless oils, that can take a bit of getting used to. On the other hand, people who like classic resin and forest-note products usually expect exactly this character.
For application, take only a small amount and warm it between your fingers. The balm softens with body heat, which makes it easier to spread over dry skin or to use for massage when a heavier, slower oil is preferred. Keep the jar closed and store it in a cool place away from direct sunlight, as with other cold-pressed oils.
