How much salt should you add to a bath, and how should you take it? — Himalayan salt, 1 kg

The manufacturer does not give a specific dosage for the bath, and this is typical for this kind of product — the amount is chosen individually. A common practice for home salt baths is from a few tablespoons to a few handfuls for a full bath. It is better to start with a smaller amount to see how your skin reacts.

The salt is dissolved in water that has already been drawn and is warm — not hot, since a high temperature on its own puts a strain on the skin and blood vessels. The optimal temperature for a relaxing bath is around 37–38 °C. The session usually lasts 15–20 minutes.

After the bath, pat the skin dry with a towel (do not rub), and apply a moisturising product if you like — salt can dry the skin out slightly with frequent use.

If you have sensitive skin or are prone to irritation, it is worth checking the reaction first: dissolve a small amount of salt in water and apply it to an area of skin for a few minutes. If you have chronic skin conditions, are pregnant, or have a serious cardiovascular condition, consult a specialist before using salt baths.

The salt combines well with bath oils, foam or scrubs — if you use several products, add them one at a time rather than all at once.
