Should I patch test this cream if my skin is sensitive?

If your skin is very reactive, patch testing is recommended before applying this cream to the whole face. The formula contains lanolin, a rich emollient that can be very softening for dry, rough-feeling skin, but it is also an ingredient some people know they do not tolerate well. Avoid the product if you already know you are sensitive to lanolin or to any ingredient listed on the packaging.

To patch test, apply a small amount to a discreet area such as the side of the neck or behind the ear. Leave it on and observe the area over the next 24 hours. If you notice unusual redness, itching, burning or swelling, wash it off and do not use it on your face. If there is no reaction, try it on a small facial area first before using it more broadly.

If your skin is currently irritated from strong exfoliants, retinoids, shaving, wind exposure or over-cleansing, introduce the cream gently and avoid layering it with products that already make your skin sting. For persistent discomfort or suspected allergy, ask a dermatologist or pharmacist for individual advice.
