The oil contains red pepper, which has a warming effect and increases blood flow to the scalp. Most people perceive this as pleasant warmth, but on sensitive skin the reaction may be stronger, even to the point of noticeable burning or redness.
If your scalp is prone to irritation, reacts to hot or warming ingredients, or has damage, scratches or inflamed areas, it is better to avoid using this oil or to consult a specialist before starting a course.
If you want to try it but are unsure how you will react, do a simple test: apply a small amount of oil to a limited area of the scalp, wait 15–20 minutes and assess how it feels. If the burning is tolerable and passes quickly, the product will most likely suit you. If the discomfort is severe or does not go away, that is a sign to stop using the product.
It is also worth bearing in mind that CO2 extraction of burdock produces a concentrated plant component, so the product as a whole is quite active. For the first few applications, it makes sense to shorten the time it is left on and use less oil, increasing the amount gradually as the skin gets used to it.
