Why is a dose of 4000 IU considered high, and who should be careful?

A dose of 4000 IU a day is considered high: for comparison, preventive supplements often contain 400–1000 IU, while therapeutic regimens are selected individually by a doctor. This does not mean that 4000 IU is dangerous in itself, but it does mean that you should take it mindfully.

What is important to consider before you start taking it:

  • If you are already taking other supplements or multivitamin complexes, check whether they contain vitamin D — the total dose from several sources may turn out to be higher than planned; the recommended daily dose — 1 capsule — must not be exceeded.
  • Vitamin D accumulates in fatty tissue, so with long-term use of high doses it is recommended to check its level in the blood periodically — as advised by a doctor.
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a specialist beforehand. This product is not intended for children: the dosage on the packaging is for adults, and 4000 IU (100 µg) reaches or exceeds the tolerable upper intake level of vitamin D for children and adolescents.

Who this dosage may be relevant for: adults who spend little time in the sun, live in regions with little sunshine (for example, the Baltic states) or want to top up this nutrient in the autumn and winter months. The pack of 90 capsules is designed for a long course, which is especially convenient for regular use.

The supplement is not a medicine and is not intended to diagnose or treat any condition. If you have chronic conditions or take medication, consult a doctor before you start taking it. The supplement is not used in case of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
