Colour fades partly because water, shampooing and friction open the cuticle and allow dye molecules to escape from the hair cortex. A balm cannot seal the colour permanently, but it can address the two visible signs of fading: dullness and a porous, rough surface.
This formula works by smoothing the cuticle, so the hair reflects light better and the colour looks more even and glossy. It also coats the strands with a light film from conditioning agents and silicones. That film reduces friction between hairs, which means less mechanical wear during styling and detangling, and helps limit the faded, porous look that coloured hair often develops. The cranberry AHA acids are included as mild fruit acids to refine the hair surface and create a light protective veil, so the shade can keep its brightness longer instead of washing out as quickly.
The practical effect is that fading may be less obvious: the colour stays looking fresher between washes, and the hair does not look as tired or straw-like. It is a care product, not a re-colouring treatment, so it will not change or replenish the pigment itself. You should still use a gentle shampoo for coloured hair, avoid very hot water and protect hair from excessive sun or heat styling, because these habits influence colour retention as much as the conditioner does. This balm is a supporting step in that routine, not a way to stop colour loss altogether.
