Wheat germ oil is one of the plant sources of vitamin E (tocopherol). If you are also taking a multivitamin formula that already contains vitamin E, it is worth keeping an eye on the total amount of this vitamin from all sources. Unlike water-soluble vitamins, fat-soluble vitamins accumulate in the tissues, so an excess with long-term use is undesirable.
Wheat germ oil combines with omega-3 (fish oil, flaxseed oil, algae capsules) without any obvious conflict: these are different classes of lipids with different functions. Omega-3 from fish oil and algae is mainly eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acid, and from flaxseed oil alpha-linolenic acid, whereas wheat germ oil is dominated by omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids. Together they complement the lipid profile of the diet rather than duplicating each other.
If you are putting together a combination of several supplements, it makes sense to consult a specialist — especially so as not to exceed the daily intake levels for fat-soluble vitamins and to spread your intake properly across the day.
