Can activated charcoal be taken together with other medicines? — activated charcoal, food supplement, 10 tablets-UNIFARMA

You need to leave a gap between taking activated charcoal and any other medicines: as a rule, at least 1–2 hours before or after. This is a key point: charcoal acts as a physical sorbent with a large porous surface, and the same “sponge” that binds gases in the intestine can also capture the active substances of medicines, reducing their absorption and effectiveness.

Particular caution is needed if you take medicines on a regular basis, for example thyroid medication, contraceptives, anticoagulants or drugs with a narrow therapeutic window. In such cases it is better to consult a specialist before using charcoal tablets, so that a safe dosing schedule can be worked out.

The same logic applies to nutrients: if charcoal is taken straight after a meal, it may partly bind some food components. Nevertheless, the recommended regimen for this product is tied to meals: 1 g (4 tablets) at least 30 minutes before a meal and 1 g (4 tablets) straight after a meal.

UNIFARMA Söetabletid is classic activated charcoal with no additional ingredients, which makes its composition predictable. It must not be used in case of gastric bleeding or gastrointestinal ulcers, and during pregnancy, with other gastrointestinal conditions or when taking medication regularly, it is worth consulting a doctor before use.
