Yes, such a reaction is possible — and this is typical of prebiotic fibres in general, not only of Jerusalem artichoke. Inulin is fermented by gut bacteria, and in people with sensitive digestion this process may be accompanied by bloating and increased gas, especially during the first days of use.
As a rule, such reactions are most pronounced at the start of a course and in those who usually eat little dietary fibre. The body needs time to adapt to a larger amount of fibre in the diet. If discomfort appears, it makes sense to take a break or reduce the dose and then resume gradually — this is standard practice when introducing any prebiotic supplement. At the same time, the recommended daily dose — for adults, 3–6 tablets once a day with a meal, for a course of 5 weeks — must not be exceeded.
People with chronic digestive diseases, irritable bowel syndrome or marked food sensitivity should consult a specialist before starting. The same applies to those who tend to react to components of plant origin; the supplement is not taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding or in case of individual intolerance to its components — the label lists these among its restrictions.
