Even though turmeric is a familiar food spice, in the form of a concentrated supplement it can interact with certain conditions and medicines. It's worth consulting a specialist in the following cases:
Gallbladder disease. Turmeric stimulates bile production, which in gallstone disease or other disorders of gallbladder function may be undesirable.
Regular use of anticoagulants or other medicines. Curcuminoids can affect blood clotting, so combining with blood-thinning medicines requires a doctor's assessment.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding. The safety of concentrated turmeric supplements during these periods hasn't been studied sufficiently, so it's better to agree on taking it with a doctor.
Sensitive stomach. If the digestive tract reacts to spicy foods, it's sensible to start carefully and monitor your individual reaction.
According to the label, the supplement is not used in case of hypersensitivity to the components, the recommended daily amount is not exceeded and it is kept out of the reach of children. In all other cases, turmeric in capsules generally fits well into the usual diet of healthy adults without complicated schedules.
