Chicory is a food, not a medicinal product, and most people tolerate it well. Nevertheless, there are several situations in which it is worth taking care.
A sensitive stomach and digestion. The inulin in chicory is a soluble fibre with prebiotic properties. When the amount of fibre in the diet is increased sharply, some people may experience bloating or discomfort. To avoid this, it is better to start with a small amount and increase the serving gradually, guided by how you feel.
Individual reactions to plant ingredients. Chicory belongs to the aster family (Compositae). People who are allergic to plants of this family (for example, ragweed, chrysanthemums or dandelion) may react to it atypically — bear this in mind when trying the product for the first time.
Pregnancy and special dietary restrictions. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a chronic illness or take medication, it is advisable to consult a doctor before adding chicory to your diet.
In all other cases, chicory is introduced into the diet like any new food: gradually and paying attention to how your body reacts.
