1000 mg of vitamin C in one capsule is a high single dose. Most healthy adults tolerate this amount well, but there are groups who should make their choice with care.
Sensitive stomach. L-ascorbic acid in high doses can cause gastrointestinal discomfort – nausea, heartburn or a laxative effect. If you are prone to reactions like these, it is worth starting with a lower dose or discussing the choice of form with a doctor.
Tendency to form kidney stones. Vitamin C is metabolised in the body, producing oxalates. For this reason, the product is not recommended for people prone to kidney stones or with kidney disease.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, chronic conditions, medication. The product is intended for adults only and is not suitable for children or pregnant or breastfeeding women; if you have a chronic condition or take medication, agree on its use with a doctor. It is not taken if you are allergic to any of its ingredients; the capsules may contain traces of milk (including lactose), soy, peanuts, other nuts, sesame, cereals containing gluten, eggs, crustaceans and fish.
If your diet is already rich in sources of vitamin C – citrus fruit, bell peppers, berries, leafy greens and herbs – your need for an additional 1000 mg may be lower than it seems. Sometimes a more moderate dose is enough.
