Who should not drink this juice, or who needs to be especially careful? — Jamun and Karela juice, Sattva Ayurveda, 1 liter

The plant origin of the product does not mean it suits everyone without exception. There are several groups of people who should exercise caution. Do not use the juice if you have an increased sensitivity to any of its components; in case of an allergic reaction, stop taking it and consult a doctor.

  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women. Karela (Momordica charantia) has historically been used in folk medicine, including in contexts not recommended during pregnancy. Before consulting a doctor, it is better to refrain from taking it.
  • People taking medicines. Plant components may interact with medicines, which is especially relevant for those who take medicines regularly. Check with a doctor or pharmacist.
  • People monitoring their blood glucose. Karela is one of the most studied plant products in this context. If you already take medicines that affect blood sugar, adding karela juice requires medical supervision.
  • People with digestive tract diseases. Pronounced bitterness and acidity may increase discomfort in gastritis, ulcers or high stomach acidity.

Children should not be given the product unless a paediatrician advises otherwise. Overall, this is a food supplement for adults with a conscious approach to diet, not a universal drink for the whole family.
