Who may find this product especially relevant, and are there contraindications? — Cod Liver Oil, 60 capsules – OstroVit

The product may be relevant for adults whose diet contains little fatty sea fish, the main food source of omega-3 and vitamin D. This is especially true in the autumn-winter period and in regions with low sunshine, when vitamin D synthesis in the skin is minimal.

It is also often chosen by those who spend much time indoors, with office or study workload, when time in the sun is limited. Cod liver oil has a long history of use in northern countries as a way to make up for a shortage of sunlight and sea fish in the diet.

At the same time, there are situations that require caution:

  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding and children. The product is not intended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, nor for children. Vitamin A in high doses is potentially unsafe during pregnancy.
  • Allergy or sensitivity to fish products. The product is made from fish, so people with the corresponding sensitivity should take care. The product may contain traces of milk, soy, peanuts, nuts, sesame, oats (a cereal containing gluten), eggs and crustaceans, so if you are allergic to them or have coeliac disease, it is better not to take it.
  • Parallel intake of vitamins A and D. If you already take these vitamins as part of other supplements or medicines, the total dose may turn out to be excessive, as fat-soluble vitamins accumulate in the body.
  • Chronic diseases and taking medicines. In these cases it is advisable to consult a specialist before adding any supplement to the diet.

The product is not intended for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of diseases and does not replace a balanced diet.
