Collagen types I and III — why are these particular types chosen for skin and hair?

There are more than twenty types of collagen in the human body, but types I and III make up the vast majority of all collagen in the skin, ligaments, tendons and other connective tissues. That is why supplements with these types are most often chosen when the focus is on the condition of skin, hair and nails.

Type I is the most abundant structural protein in the skin: it forms dense fibres that provide firmness and elasticity. Type III is often found alongside type I and is particularly characteristic of young, “soft” connective tissue. With age, the body's natural production of both types declines, which shows in the appearance of the skin.

VITATEKA uses hydrolysed bovine collagen of precisely these two types. Once it is taken, the body receives amino acids and short peptides — building material that it uses according to its own needs. There is no direct “transfer” of collagen to the skin: the supplement works as a source of specific amino acids, above all glycine, proline and hydroxyproline, which the usual diet may not provide in sufficient amounts.

A noticeable effect from regular intake of collagen peptides is usually assessed no earlier than after several weeks — provided the diet is balanced and protein and water intake are adequate.
