Fermented fireweed with linden tolerates hot water well, but does not need boiling water — the optimal temperature is 90–95 °C. If brewed with freshly boiled water, the floral notes of the linden may become less pronounced and the taste slightly coarser.
The brewing time is 5–7 minutes. During this time the infusion acquires a rich colour and full aroma. If left to steep for longer, the taste becomes more concentrated but not bitter — unlike black tea, fireweed tea gives practically no bitterness with long brewing.
The leaves can be reused: the second and third infusions often reveal other facets of the flavour — slightly lighter and more floral. This is a feature of fermented fireweed.
A teapot, a French press or any vessel with a strainer will do for brewing. The amount of dry tea is 1–2 teaspoons per serving, but it can be adjusted to taste.
The drink is good both hot and chilled — in the latter case it can be brewed stronger and served over ice.
