How should sage leaves be brewed, and how many times a day can this infusion be drunk?

Preparation according to the label: pour 200 ml of hot water over 1 teaspoon (about 2 g) of dried leaves, heat in a water bath for 15 minutes, then strain. Keep the prepared infusion in the fridge for no more than 2 days. The infusion tastes astringent and slightly bitter — this is due to the natural bitter compounds and essential oils in the leaves.

As sage contains potent plant compounds, it is not drunk in large amounts on a permanent basis: adults are recommended to take ½ glass twice a day for a course of up to 1 month.

The infusion is drunk warm with meals. Some people add a little honey — it goes well with the spicy aroma of sage and softens the bitterness. The cold infusion is also used for gargling, although this goes beyond its use as a drink.

The label lists pregnancy and breastfeeding as restrictions — the infusion is not drunk during these periods. If you have a chronic condition or take medicines, and indeed before any use, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
