The capsule form is convenient because it involves no complicated steps: one capsule a day fits into most standard supplement routines. Nevertheless, a few points are worth considering in advance.
Combining with other antioxidants. Resveratrol is often considered alongside vitamin C, vitamin E, coenzyme Q10 or grape seed extract. Such combinations are common, but if you already take several supplements, it makes sense to check that the total antioxidant load is not excessive — this is something to discuss with a specialist.
Interactions with medicines. Resveratrol may affect the activity of enzymes involved in the metabolism of certain medicines, as well as blood-clotting processes. If you take anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents or any other prescription medicines, consult a doctor before you start taking it.
When to take it. Resveratrol is a fat-soluble polyphenol, so it is traditionally recommended to take it with a meal containing a small amount of fat: this may improve its absorption. Check the instructions on the packaging for specific recommendations on timing.
Storage. Like most antioxidants, resveratrol is sensitive to light and heat. Store the capsules in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and observe the expiry date stated on the packaging.
