How should vitamin E capsules be taken correctly — with food or without? — E-vitamin capsules 180mg N60 – Swanson

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means dietary fat is needed for it to be absorbed. It is recommended to take the capsules with a meal or right after one, especially if that meal contains fat: vegetable oil, nuts, avocado, fish, eggs or dairy products. Taking it on an empty stomach or with food that has virtually no fat (for example, just a piece of fruit or a salad without dressing) may reduce absorption.

This same property makes vitamin E convenient to include with a morning or midday supplement routine — at a time when the main meal is already planned. Taking it in the evening before bed without food is less justified.

The capsules are taken with enough water. There is no need to split or open the capsule — it is meant to be swallowed whole.

The supplement is best stored in a dry place, protected from direct light and heat: fat-soluble vitamins are sensitive to oxidation.
