The proportions are given on the label. For washing the face, neck and décolleté, 1 teaspoon of bark is covered with hot water (100–200 ml), left to infuse for 15–30 minutes and cooled to room temperature. For a bath, 1 tablespoon is covered with hot water (200–500 ml), left to infuse for 15–30 minutes, added to the bath and stirred in; the bath is taken for 10–15 minutes.
The prepared infusion can be used in three ways:
Face and body wash. The infusion, cooled to a comfortable temperature, is applied to the skin with a cotton pad, or you simply wash with it. In this format, alder buckthorn bark is valued for its toning and softening properties.
Bath additive. The strained infusion is poured into a filled bath. This is a convenient way to get a toning effect over a large area of skin.
Hair and scalp rinse. After washing your hair, the infusion is applied to the hair and scalp, lightly massaged in and left for a few minutes or rinsed off — depending on your preference.
The prepared infusion contains no preservatives, so for washing it is used immediately after preparation, and for longer storage it is poured into ice cube trays and frozen — the cubes can be used to wipe the skin. Before using it on your face for the first time, it is worth checking your skin's reaction on a small area.
