Before first use, rinse the flint thoroughly under running water to remove dust and any contamination picked up during storage and transport. Some people also recommend soaking the stones in clean water for a few hours — this helps prepare the mineral's surface for contact with the water you will be using.
After preparation, the stones are placed at the bottom of a glass or ceramic container and covered with water at a ratio of 10 g of flint per 1 l. According to the label, the water is left to infuse for 3 days. Metal containers are not recommended, as they can affect the taste and properties of the water.
Rinse the flint regularly — according to the label, once every 10 days. The surface of the stone gradually accumulates deposits, and without rinsing its effectiveness decreases. Rinse the stones under running water, gently cleaning the surface with a soft brush if necessary, without using detergents.
The stones should be replaced with new ones every 6–8 months, as their surface is gradually exhausted.
