The main rule for a beginner is to go gradually. In the first sessions the skin reacts more sharply, because the receptors have not yet adapted to this type of stimulation. Start with 3–5 minutes, then, if you wish, increase the time to 15–20 minutes per session.
For the back, it is most convenient to lie on the mat on a firm surface — for example, on the floor. A soft bed reduces the evenness of the pressure: some needles will press harder, while others barely touch the skin. If the sensations are too intense at first, you can place a thin cotton T-shirt between the skin and the mat — this reduces the load on the receptors while the body adjusts.
For the feet, use the mat standing: stand on it with both feet, distributing your weight evenly. Hold on to a support if needed. The first seconds may feel sharp — this is normal; usually after 1–2 minutes the sensation eases.
After a session, the skin in the contact area may redden — this is a temporary reaction to increased local blood flow, and it goes away on its own. If the redness lasts a long time or irritation appears, shorten the time of the next session or take a break.
With sensitive skin, pregnancy, skin injuries or chronic conditions, consult a specialist before use.
