How should Dabur amla oil be used — rinsed out or left on the hair?

Dabur Amla is a rich oil, and for most hair types it works as a rinse-out step of care rather than a finishing product. Here are three main ways to use it:

  • An oil ritual before shampoo. Apply the oil to dry or slightly damp hair along the whole length 1–2 hours before washing, then wash it out with shampoo as usual. This is the most common method: the oil has time to coat the cuticle and soften the hair shaft, and the shampoo removes the excess without leaving greasiness.
  • Scalp massage. A small amount of oil can be rubbed into the scalp with light circular movements before washing. This softens the skin and makes the procedure more comfortable. If your scalp is sensitive or prone to irritation, test the oil on a small area first.
  • Intensive nourishment for the lengths. In periods when the ends look overdried or tangle quickly, you can apply the oil only to the mid-lengths and ends, leave it on for longer (for example, overnight under a shower cap) and rinse it out in the morning.

Using the oil as a leave-in finishing product is not recommended: because of its rich texture it can weigh the hair down and make it look greasy, especially at the roots. If you need a light leave-in oil for styling or heat protection, that is a different kind of product.

According to the label, the oil is recommended for use 2–3 times a week.
