For a bath, essential oil is not added straight to the water: it does not dissolve and can concentrate on the surface, causing skin irritation. The right way is to first dissolve 5–10 drops of oil in 1–2 tablespoons of sea salt and then add this mixture to the filled bath. The water should not be too hot, so that the aroma does not evaporate too quickly.
For massage, lemon essential oil is mixed with a carrier oil at a ratio of 1–4 drops of essential oil per 10 ml of carrier oil. This blend is suitable for body massage, including rough areas of skin — elbows, heels and knees. The lemon scent is traditionally associated with freshness and energy, which makes a morning massage with this oil especially pleasant.
After a bath or massage with lemon oil, you should avoid prolonged sun exposure for several hours because of the possible photosensitising effect.
