How do I use incense safely?

A smouldering stick is an open source of fire and hot ash, so there are a few basic rules:

• do not leave a burning stick unattended;
• keep it away from children, pets, fabrics and other flammable objects;
• use a stable, non-combustible holder so that the stick does not fall over and the ash does not land on the surface.

To keep the scent pleasant and not too intense, it is better to ventilate the room or light the stick with the window slightly open. This matters especially in small or poorly ventilated rooms, and if there are people at home who are sensitive to smells. If you or someone close to you is prone to reactions to smoke and strong scents, is pregnant, is breastfeeding or has a chronic respiratory condition, it makes sense to consult a specialist beforehand. Once the stick has burned down, make sure the tip has gone out completely.
