How exactly does “calorie blocking” work: what actually happens after you take a capsule?

The name “calorie blocker” is a marketing simplification. In practice, it is about more moderate absorption of some nutrients, primarily complex carbohydrates, rather than switching them off completely.

The key role here is played by Phaseolus vulgaris bean extract. It contains substances that affect the activity of the enzymes that break down starch. As a result, some of the starch from food may be digested less intensively, and the body gets somewhat less energy from these foods than usual. Important: this concerns starch specifically, the complex carbohydrate in grains, bread, potatoes and pulses, and not fats or simple sugars.

Garcinia cambogia contains hydroxycitric acid, which is linked to carbohydrate and fat metabolism. It is also included in formulas for people who want to be more relaxed about snacking and to control their appetite better between main meals.

Chromium picolinate is a well-absorbed form of chromium, a trace element involved in the metabolism of macronutrients. It is often added to weight-management supplements, especially when there are strong cravings for sweet foods.

So the formula works in several directions at once: it affects carbohydrate absorption, is involved in metabolism and helps maintain a calmer attitude towards food. It is a supporting tool, not a replacement for a calorie deficit, physical activity and a sensible eating pattern: without this foundation, the result will be minimal.
