The basis of the blend is blackcurrant berries and leaves. The berries provide a rich berry flavour and a slight tartness, while the leaves add depth to the aroma — they are traditionally used in homemade herbal blends in the Baltics and Eastern Europe. Willowherb (rosebay willowherb) enhances this astringency, as it is credited with an astringent effect. It gives the infusion body and makes the taste more “serious”, unlike an ordinary fruit tea.
