Bleaching, permanent colour, and frequent heat styling all damage the hair's protein structure and lift the cuticle scales, making strands porous, rough, and prone to breakage. This shampoo addresses that in two ways. Coconut oil, rich in lauric acid, has a low molecular weight and linear chain that lets it penetrate the hair shaft and adhere to hair proteins, reducing the protein loss that normally occurs when hair swells in water. Hydrolysed keratin deposits on the damaged surface, temporarily filling gaps in the cuticle so light reflects more evenly — hair looks less frizzy and feels smoother.
Because it is sulphate-free, the cleansing step itself causes less mechanical friction and less swelling of the fibre, which helps preserve colour vibrancy and reduces further weakening. It will not "repair" split ends — only a trim does that — but it creates a gentler environment so existing damage does not worsen as quickly with each wash.
For best results on heavily processed hair, follow with a conditioner or mask that contains lipids and proteins, and limit heat styling. The shampoo is the foundation; the leave-on steps do the heavier conditioning work.
