Yes, using a body scrub before self-tan is a common step because dead skin cells can cause the tan to develop unevenly. This salt scrub is a good option because it removes dead cells and leaves a smooth surface. For best results, exfoliate at least a few hours before applying your self-tan, ideally the day before. This gives your skin time to recover and ensures no residue from the scrub interferes with the tan.
After exfoliating, rinse thoroughly and dry your skin completely. Do not apply moisturiser immediately before self-tan, as it can create a barrier that prevents the tan from adhering evenly. You can moisturise very dry areas like elbows and knees, but wait at least 30 minutes before applying the tan. Also, avoid using any oil-based products after the scrub. If you are new to self-tanning, do a small patch test first to see how your skin reacts.
