Juniper essential oil is highly concentrated and is meant for external cosmetic and aromatic blending, not for internal use. This Botanika oil comes as a pure essential oil, so it should not be applied directly to the skin.
For a body massage blend, a conservative starting point is 2–3 drops of juniper oil per 10 ml of carrier oil, which equals about two teaspoons. Suitable carrier oils include sweet almond, jojoba, grapeseed or olive oil. If the blend is for the face or for naturally delicate skin, lower the amount to about 1 drop per 10 ml. The aim is to use the smallest amount that still gives a pleasant scent and sensation.
Before using it on a larger area, do a patch test. Mix one drop of juniper oil with a teaspoon of carrier oil, apply a little to the inside of your forearm and wait 24 hours. If the skin turns red, burns or itches, do not use the oil. Even when the test is fine, keep the blend away from your eyes, inner ears, nostrils and any broken or irritated skin.
For scalp use, mix a drop or two into a small amount of carrier oil and massage it into the scalp before washing, then shampoo thoroughly. If you use an oil diffuser, one drop is usually enough to give a room a crisp, resinous note. The scent is strong, so with this oil it is better to start with less.
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place, away from heat and direct sunlight, and out of children's reach. This oil should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult a specialist before use if you have very sensitive skin, chronic skin conditions or are on medication.
