A solid soap bar will soften and turn mushy if it is left sitting in water. The most straightforward way to make a 150 g bar last longer is to store it on a draining soap dish that has holes or ridges, so water can run off and air can reach the underside. Never leave it in an enclosed soap box immediately after use, and do not let it sit in a puddle at the edge of the bathtub.
Choose a place in the bathroom that is not hit directly by the shower spray or the running tap. In a shared family bathroom, this might mean keeping the bar at the far end of the sink or on its own dish, away from where other items are stored. A bar that dries between uses is firmer, produces a richer lather, and needs less product with each wash, which is what makes the solid format economical compared with small bottles of liquid soap.
As the bar gets thinner, you can press the remaining sliver onto the new bar so it does not go to waste. This is a common household technique and works well with solid bars that have the same texture. The exact lifespan of the bar depends on how many people use it, how often, and how carefully it is stored.
