How should I clean and care for the shungite pendant and its cord?

Care for this pendant mostly means caring for the cord and keeping the stone surface clean. Shungite is a mineral, but it is mounted on a simple cord, so avoid soaking the whole piece. Long exposure to water can weaken the cord fibres and leave dust or residue around the hole. If the stone looks dusty, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. If you want a slightly damp clean, use a barely damp cloth and dry the stone thoroughly before wearing it again.

Keep the pendant away from perfume, body lotion, hair spray and aggressive cleaning products. These can leave a film on the stone and mark or stiffen the cord. It is also a good habit to remove the pendant before swimming, showering, sleeping or heavy exercise. This is less about shungite itself and more about preventing unnecessary wear, moisture buildup and accidental snags.

When the pendant is not in use, store it in a dry place — a cloth pouch or a separate compartment in a jewellery box works well. Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight for long periods, because the cord colour can fade even if the stone is unaffected. Shungite's dark surface can also look dusty quickly, so closed storage helps keep it presentable.

Every few weeks, check the cord and the knot: run the knot between your fingers and look for fraying or loosening. That simple check can prevent you from losing the stone. If the cord wears out, the pendant itself can usually be restrung.
