Shungite is a natural stone, so it needs the same kind of basic care as other stone jewellery. The main risks are physical damage, chemical exposure, and moisture affecting the cord.
- Avoid impacts: dropping the pendant onto a hard floor or knocking it against a sink can chip or crack the ring. Take it off before activities where it might hit something.
- Keep away from harsh chemicals: perfume, hairspray, cleaning products, and some skincare formulas can dull the stone's surface over time. Put the pendant on after applying such products.
- Limit prolonged moisture: brief exposure to water is unlikely to harm the stone itself, but the cord can stretch, weaken, or discolour after repeated soaking. Remove the pendant before showering, swimming, or exercising heavily.
- Clean gently: wipe the stone with a soft dry cloth to remove dust and skin oils. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaning, and aggressive brushes.
- Store separately: place the pendant in a soft pouch or a separate compartment so it is not scratched by other jewellery.
Because each piece has natural variation, you may notice the surface pattern or shade change slightly with age or light exposure. That is normal for shungite and does not mean the product is damaged. If you have very sensitive skin, pay attention to how the cord feels during wear; if irritation appears, stop wearing it and consult a specialist.
