Bleached and heat-damaged hair is highly porous: the cuticle is lifted or missing in places, so the fibre loses protein and moisture rapidly. A mask with amino acids and rich oils helps fill those gaps, but frequency depends on your hair's thickness, density, and current condition.
General guideline: begin with once a week on a wash day where you have time to leave it on for the full 5–10 minutes. After 3–4 weeks, assess. If ends still feel dry, snap easily, or tangle aggressively in humidity, add a second weekly session. If hair starts feeling overly soft, mushy when wet, or loses volume at the roots, cut back — this signals lipid or protein overload (sometimes called "hygral fatigue"), where the fibre swells excessively from too much conditioning.
Application technique matters: concentrate product from mid-lengths to ends. Avoid the scalp unless your scalp is also very dry; the oils can weigh down fine roots and accelerate greasiness. On non-mask wash days, use a lightweight conditioner. If you also use protein treatments (hydrolyzed keratin, wheat, silk), alternate weeks rather than stacking them, to avoid stiffness.
Seasonal adjustment: in winter, indoor heating dries hair further — you may need the second weekly use. In humid summer, once a week or even every 10 days may suffice.
