There is no single rule, because frequency depends on how dry your hair and scalp feel. A common approach is to use a burdock pre-wash oil once a week. If your lengths are over-processed from coloring or heat styling, you may prefer to use it before every wash until the feel of the hair improves. If your hair is naturally oily, once a week or even once every two weeks is usually enough.
The idea is to let the oil work as a protective layer during shampooing, not to leave a residue on the scalp. That is why the washing-out step is part of the ritual — a weekly treatment can be enough to smooth the cuticle, while daily application would build up oil and make the hair heavy.
If you combine several active scalp products — such as serums, scrubs, or other oils — introduce them one by one, separated by one or two weeks. This helps you notice which product suits your scalp and which one causes tightness or irritation. A patch test before the first use is a sensible precaution for any scalp product that contains plant extracts. If persistent itching, redness, or flaking appears, stop using the product and talk to a specialist — the oil is not intended to treat a scalp condition.
Also keep the bottle away from direct sunlight and heat, as plant oils can become rancid over time. Check the expiry date on the packaging and store it as indicated on the label.
