Shaving cuts the hair at the surface of the skin, so the hair becomes visible again quickly, often within a day or two, and the regrowth can feel stubbly. These wax strips work differently: the wax grips the hair and lifts it out from the root. Because the hair is removed from below the skin surface, the result usually lasts longer than shaving, and the area feels smoother as new hair grows back.
Exactly how long the smoothness lasts depends on your individual hair growth cycle, which varies from person to person. For most people, the interval between waxing sessions is measured in weeks rather than days. The regrowth after waxing can also feel softer and less prickly, because the hair tip that emerges is finer than the blunt cut end left by a razor.
To get the most out of each session, wax when the hair is long enough for the strip to grip it. If the hair is very short, the wax may not catch it well; if it is very long, the strip is harder to press down evenly. Between waxing sessions, avoid shaving the same area, as this interrupts the natural growth cycle and can make the hair feel stubbly again. For best results, keep the skin clean and dry before each application.
