How is this toning shampoo different from permanent hair colour?

This product is a temporary toning shampoo, not a permanent dye. It works by depositing colour pigments onto the hair surface while you wash, coating the shaft to create a darker visual effect. No developer or oxidative process is involved, so it does not lift your natural pigment or permanently change the hair structure. The colour fades gradually over several washes, making it a low-commitment option for refreshing tone between full colour services or for blending early grey strands without the regrowth line that permanent colour creates. Because it combines cleansing and toning in one step, you use it in place of your regular shampoo only when you want a colour boost, not at every wash.

Permanent colour, by contrast, uses ammonia or similar alkalizers plus peroxide to open the cuticle and deposit colour inside the cortex. That process is irreversible until the hair grows out or is cut. The toning shampoo gives you flexibility: if the shade is not what you expected, it will wash out. It also means you cannot lighten hair with this product — it only adds depth to medium brown or light brown bases.
