Sulphate-free shampoos use milder surfactants that cleanse without stripping the hair's protective lipid layer. You will notice less foam — this is normal and does not mean the product is not working. Because the cleansing action is gentler, the hair and scalp retain more of their natural oils, so lengths feel less squeaky or coarse after rinsing. For hair that is dry, damaged, or tangles easily, this reduced stripping effect makes combing and styling easier. If you are used to strong-foam shampoos, it may take a few washes to adjust to the different sensation; the hair is not less clean, just less stripped. Apply to wet hair, massage the scalp gently, and rinse thoroughly. A second, lighter application can help if you use styling products or have an oily scalp.
