How do I use it on my hair, and should I wash it out?

On hair, coconut oil works mainly as an emollient, coating the hair shaft to help tame frizz, add softness, and improve the look of dry ends. For daily smoothing, take a very small amount (about the size of a pea—you can always add more) and warm it between your palms until liquid. Apply it only to the mid-lengths and ends of dry or damp hair, avoiding the scalp to prevent greasiness. This can be a leave-in treatment to manage flyaways and add shine.

For a deeper treatment, you can apply a slightly larger amount to dry hair lengths before washing. Massage it in, leave it on for 20-30 minutes (or even overnight), and then shampoo it out thoroughly. This pre-wash method can help reduce moisture loss during cleansing. Since it's a pure oil, one or two shampoos may be needed to fully remove it. Start with less frequent use (e.g., once a week) to see how your hair responds, as very fine hair types may be weighed down by too much product.
