Tear open one sachet and empty the powder into a cup or mug. Add hot water and stir until the powder is dissolved. The water temperature changes the drink: hot water gives a stronger warming effect, while warm water produces a milder cup. You can also adjust the strength by varying the amount of water you add — less water for a more concentrated flavour, more water for a lighter drink.

The tea tastes spicy because of the ginger and peppers, with a naturally sweet note from liquorice, so it usually does not need anything added. If you prefer, a squeeze of lemon can brighten the flavour, but taste it plain first. Drink it warm and freshly made, as the spice aroma fades more quickly once the cup cools.

If you have not tried this type of spiced herbal drink before, start with warm water and a smaller cup to judge how strong you like it. Store the remaining sachets in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. This is a herbal beverage, not a substitute for a balanced diet.
