How do I know if shade 5 Brown is the right colour for me?

Shade 5 is a warm brown tone. According to the product description, it suits many medium to darker brown bases, so it is designed to blend with your natural colour rather than create a flat, overly dark mask. If your natural hair is medium brown to dark brown, this shade will likely give a natural-looking result. If your hair is lighter – for example, light brown or blonde – shade 5 may be too dark and could look harsh.

Grey hair can take colour differently than pigmented hair. It is often more porous, so it may absorb the dye more quickly and appear darker than your natural colour. For this reason, a shade that is close to your natural colour is usually the safest choice. If you are between two shades, choose the lighter one – it is easier to go darker later than to lighten a colour that is too dark.

If you are unsure, you can do a small strand test. Apply the dye to a small section of hair near the nape of your neck or behind your ear, and wait the full development time. This will give you an idea of the final colour before you commit to a full application. Remember that the result may look slightly different on grey hair, so the test is especially useful if you have a lot of grey.
