Solid copper develops a natural patina – a soft darkening or change in surface tone – as it reacts with air, moisture, and skin contact. This is a normal process and not a flaw. Some people love the aged, individual look; others prefer the original warm shine. How you care for the bracelet depends on which finish you want.
To keep the copper bright and shiny:
- Use a soft cloth and a copper-specific polish, or a homemade paste of lemon juice and baking soda.
- Apply the paste gently, rinse with warm water, and dry thoroughly.
- After polishing, buff with a dry, soft cloth to restore the shine.
To maintain a patina (the darkened, aged look):
- Simply wipe the bracelet with a dry cloth after each wear to remove oils and moisture.
- Store it in a dry place, ideally in a small pouch or box, to slow down further oxidation.
Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive scrubbers, or ultrasonic cleaners, as they can scratch the metal. Also, keep the bracelet away from perfumes, lotions, and household cleaning products – these can accelerate tarnishing or cause uneven spots.
If you wear the bracelet daily, you may notice the patina develops unevenly, especially where it touches your skin. That is part of the charm: the piece becomes unique to you. If you prefer a consistent look, you can polish it periodically – for example, once a month – to bring back the original tone.
